Frankie Floyd

Frankie Floyd

Gary and I adopted Frankie from “Save a Dog Today’ out of Redding in 2007. Gary retired in 2005 and we had talked about adopting a dog but he wanted to make sure he was going to stay retired. We looked at several animal rescues and Gary saw Frankie’s picture and said, “he’s the one.” Frankie was close to both of us but I was still working and the bond Gary and Frankie had grew deeper. We were a Pack, not a part from each other for more than a couple of days. Life with Frankie was full, we attending several training classes with him and he obeyed commands in the back yard – He was part hound and his nose was in control. We went on hikes all over the foothills in Auburn, CA. There is a nice area close to our house where we would walk Frankie everyday and everyday we did. We would hide treats for him in the backyard and give him the command, “find.” Watching him use his nose to find every morsel of a treat was fascinating and helped him to burn off excess energy. Because we walked Frankie in the neighborhood, we introduced ourselves to our neighbors we wouldn’t have met otherwise. Our world opened up more than it ever had before because of Frankie and our love for him and we wanted a good life for him. The day we said goodbye to Frankie was the worst heartache we could bear. He’s be absent physically from our lives but will forever remain in our hearts until he is no longer a memory we can hold onto. We still say goodnight to him and the tears still come. He was our Frankie Boy, Frankie Doodle, Frankster, Frank, Doodle Dog and more.

Mango

Mango

Mango was 8 weeks or so when I brought him home from a feral colony. Over time I brought 6 more babies home and Mango adopted them all. He played with them, bathed them, and slept with each one until they exerted their independence. He was a nurturer.

Pete

Pete

We adopted Pete in December, 2011. He was the sweetest quirky little fellow, always popular with our daughter’s college friends when he’d visit Ohio State University. He had the best little doggy personality and we feel blessed to have had Pete in our lives. While we never knew Pete as a puppy, we still think we were privileged to enjoy the best years of his life. He was the best boy and we’re thankful we shared 13 years with Pete.
