Lulu

Lulu wasn’t the average 4-legged friend for us. She was so much more than that. She came to us at just 7 weeks old (the day before my 23rd birthday) and was the sweetest little runt we had ever seen. She enjoyed chewing on phone chargers and even my Christmas tree power cord that year. We went through a lot of hands-on training, learning hand signals, and lots of patience and consistency to teach her that chewing on cords wasn’t safe, and that we preferred her to chew on ropes and dog toys instead. After her puppy days were behind her, she enjoyed giving hugs (even on command) to the ones she loved the most. She enjoyed casually chasing after her rope toys, rolling around on the floor, and “saying please” for extra treats. She even learned how to trick the system, for even more treats, and when we would spell the words ‘out, bath, treat,’ etc., she learned to understand what those spellings meant and would get just as excited. She knew how to open doors, find her kids (my 2-legged babies, now teenagers), and if she wanted pets or cuddles, she knew how to manipulate your hand to get it right where she wanted it. In her senior years, she loved even more cuddles and giving hugs, soaking up the sun rays, and knowing where her kids were at all times. She knew when one of us was in distress and knew just how to calm us down. She had us wrapped around her paws so tightly, she knew she could get away with anything with those puppy eyes and she absolutely loved to be spoiled just as much as we enjoyed spoiling her. We knew her time was getting close, and she helped us make the decision when it was time, although it broke our hearts deeply, as we were never going to be ready to let her go. She is flying high with her dad, and my best friend who passed back in 2018, so I know she is safe, happy, and no longer in pain. I can’t wait to see her again. Fly high, my love. Till we meet again.
