As the Primary Communications Tool for Continuity of Care When Hospice Care is Needed

NEWTON, Mass., August 17, 2020 – The International Association of Animal Hospice and Palliative Care (IAAHPC) has announced its partnership with BabelBark, Inc., a pet-related software developer, to be the primary tool for medical professionals and caregivers to ensure information can be shared, in an effort to enhance the quality of life of pets. BabelBark is the first technology platform to work closely with hospice workers offering asynchronous two-way pet journal assisting veterinary care providers and pet parents when hospice and palliative care is needed.

Sharing of medical information and overall status of a pet is critical for veterinary hospice and palliative caregivers, as it can make a big difference in the level and quality of end-of-life care. BabelBark’s technology allows for effective communications in managing the physical needs of all animal hospice and palliative care patients. It consolidates the various forms of communications clients share about the pet from notes, texts, photographs and videos all in one place , allowing the veterinary team and clients recognize patterns in a pet’s health that can sometimes be hard to notice during end of life care.

“BabelBark allows veterinary hospice and palliative caregivers to have the information they need to adequately assess when a patient is stable and when a patient’s condition is changing rapidly,” says Tyler Carmack, DVM, CVA, CVFT, CHPV and President of IAAHPC.

Babelbark’s pet journal includes a list of medications and compliance logs, diet, nutrition, and the opportunity to record weight changes. For example, if a hospice patient visits a specialist and a new diet recommendation or medication is started, every member of their care team on the platform is notified in the pet journal. This makes the continuity of care seamless and efficient.
